Public health major Marie Blevins hopes to one day meet Ellen DeGeneres. The talk show host and philanthropist has inspired the University of Kentucky senior through her outreach, showing her viewers the importance of sharing their time, talent and treasure with those who need it the most.
"She is so upbeat and happy all of the time and shows how important philanthropy is to her," Blevins said.
A founding member of the Student Philanthropy Board, Blevins is also committed to making a difference worldwide. As an active member of Kappa Kappa Gamma, Wildcats for HOMES, Urban Impact and DanceBlue, she is strengthening her community and improving opportunities for the people she serves.
Recently, she and her youth group visited Belize, where they built a home for a family of four. This memorable experience was even more special because she shared it with friends.
"It was such an amazing feeling at the end of the week when we were able to give them the keys to begin this new chapter in their lives," Blevins said.
Dedicated to helping others, Blevins hopes to eventually work with International Development in Haiti and to use her experience and knowledge to make a positive difference in the world.
