The University of Kentucky has commenced its Spring 2022 semester! Despite the challenges presented by COVID-19, the university continues to offer students a full residential experience, with in-person classes and community-building activities. In this issue of the Women and Philanthropy Network e-newsletter, we are excited to announce the recipients of 2021 W&P grants—be sure to check those out below!
The Women and Philanthropy Network at the University of Kentucky recently awarded $199,327 to five academic initiatives at UK. This brings lifetime grants by the group to $2,683,719. These five programs were the top proposals receiving votes from members from presentations at the November 2021 Symposium.
Grant funds were awarded to support the following proposals:
Stuckert Career Center – Wildcat Internship Scholarship Program: Increasing Student Access to Internship Opportunities, $40,000
College of Pharmacy – Healthcare Communication Mentorship Program for Historically Underrepresented Groups, $18,750
College of Public Health – Documenting Kentucky’s COVID Stories: A Collaboration of College of Public Health, College of Communication & Information and Libraries, $49,963
J. David Rosenberg College of Law – The Kentucky Legal Education Opportunity Scholarships, $50,000
College of Health Sciences – Physical Therapy Networking in Action – Representing our Commonwealth – $40,614
The Women and Philanthropy Network is accepting proposals through July 31, 2022. Proposals will be presented in person to the Leadership Council on September 22, 2022. The top 10 proposals will then be presented to the full membership in person on November 3, 2022. Funding will be available in February 2023 to be used by August 1, 2024.
Recipient Profile - Christina Hesley
As a busy working mother of two small children, Christina Hesley hesitated to walk away from the salary and benefits of her full-time job. Still, she dreamed of going to graduate school to expand her career by becoming a behavior analyst. A grant from the UK Women and Philanthropy Network changed the course of her life.

A recurring payment is easy to set up and allows you to pay your Women and Philanthropy membership dues on YOUR schedule! Choose a recurring credit card payment, an automatic bank draft or a payroll deduction.
Credit card payments may be divided into one, two, four, 12 or 52 times a year. Click here to enroll.
Automatic bank drafts are drawn on the 15th of each month. Just complete this form, attach a voided check and drop it in the mail.
Members who are UK employees may visit MyUK to set up a payroll deduction.

Service Project Opportunity: Big Blue Pantry
A recent campus study found that more than 40% of UK students experience some level of food insecurity during their college career and the Big Blue Pantry is one resource to help combat the affects.
The mission of the Big Blue Pantry is to provide support and awareness for food insecure students across campus, as well as to educate the broader student population about hunger. Since opening its doors in 2014, the Big Blue Pantry has grown annually in both number of visitors and food provided for students. Primarily supported by donations, the Big Blue Pantry accepts both monetary donations and physical donations.
Women and Philanthropy members assisted this program by bringing food items for donation to the Symposium in November, as well as by making monetary donations.

College of Design: The New Building
On August 19, 2021, over 75 members and guests enjoyed an in-person event hosted by the College of Design. Dean Mitzi Vernon and architect Jeanne Gang led us through the Reynolds Building rehabilitation. The old tobacco warehouse on Scott Street is being reimagined as the new home of the College of Design. The space will soon be unveiled as another campus showpiece.
Montre’ale Jones, a recent College of Design graduate from Hopkinsville, shared his experiences as a student in the college and how they prepared him for an architecture career in New York City.
Membership
The membership committee has set a goal to increase membership by at least 10% this year – that’s over 20 new ladies. Do you know a potential new member who would like to know more about our group?
